“It was a warm, still Friday at Zayed Sports City. Perfect conditions for what was to be an epic battle between the mighty Abu Dhabi Falcons & the Dubai Dingoes. Plenty at stake for both teams today, as for the winners it means a chance to make the grand final later in the year.

The Dingoes arrived early and looked roaring to go but it was the Falcons with an early clearance from the middle which resulted in Slittle having the first shot at goal for the hosts. The ball fell short and the Dingoes took it down field for a counter attack goal. However, it didn’t take long for the Falcons to reply with a goal of their own in minutes if not seconds later. From there, the first quarter was tit for tat with both sides scoring at will with neither getting the better of the other. The Coach slotted in two with Rocket looking dangerous up forward as well. Zac, Dan and Danny starting well in the middle. Hammer doing plenty of spoiling and gathering in the back half for the hosts. Quarter time scores read sides even. Both teams gather their breathes at the quarter time huddles.

Quarter Time saw some tactical changes from the Falcons. With the Dingoes having plenty of height in their forward line, Joey and Hammer were to start on the tall timber down back with Tommy for backup and BC, Nate, Andy changing over in the back pocket. Second Quarter, was much of the same. Goal for goal by both teams, but the Falcons starting getting momentum later in the quarter and went into half-time a couple of points in front. Zac dominating the middle field in the second quarter & first half in general with good help from Danny and Dan/Crazy with the ruck taps

The third quarter saw the games intensity step up with the Dingoes noticeably more aggressive towards man & ball. It took the Falcons some time to settle in the third quarter but once they did, their attack and ball movement looked strong and fluent. Superior to the Dingoes. After a bad flat tyre before the game, Ali finally joined his team-mates just before half-time and started on the field in third-quarter. The 3rd quarter would be his as he jumped, dodged, spun his way to kicking and setting up numerous goals. Falcons best player in the 3rd quarter! Three quarter time and both sides looked spent. All day it’s been fast, intense football with plenty of goals being scored. But no time to ponder that, quick drink, team lineup read and back into it for a gut busting last quarter.

Well, the start of the 4th quarter was disastrous for the Falcons. 4 unanswered goals by the Dingoes saw the lead go from 8 points to being behind by 18 within 6 minutes! The Falcons would muster up another 2 goals in a row but couldn’t get enough momentum with tired, heavy legs to get over the top of the Dubai team. The siren sounds and Final Score reads out: Dubai Dingoes 116 – Abu Dhabi Falcons 96.

After the game, the coach & president were proud of their players efforts & attitude throughout the day. The game came down to a 6 minute lapse of concentration at the start of the fourth quarter which saw the game slip away for the Falcons. A hard pill to swallow for the Falcons as they go down narrowly to their archrivals. However, they must learn from this game, pick themselves up and dust themselves off and look ahead to take down one of the best sides in the league on their home turf.. the Doha Kangaroos on the 13th of February. I can’t wait for it.. See you there!!”

Josh “Tex” Walker.

FINAL SCORE: FALCONS: 15.6 – 96 defeated by DINGOES: 18.8 – 116.

Falcons Best: Josh, Zac, Danny, Ali, Dan.
